Coach Augustine Eguavoen has said he was pleased the Super Eagles cut off Mohamed Salah to beat Egypt 1-0 in an opening AFCON Group D tie in Garoua tonight.
Kelechi Iheanacho was the match winner for the Eagles with a terrific goal on 30 minutes.
“The objective were to win the game, cut off Salah and keep the ball and we did all that,” a delighted Eguavoen said the big win.
“We played direct and we also kept the ball.
“We will continue to approach each game as a cup final.”
Nigeria recorded 15 goal attempts against four by Egypt.
The Eagles next game will be on Saturday against Sudan.
