Ike Ugbo, whose parents are Nigerians, opened scoring to inspire Genk to a 4-0 win at KV Oostende in the absence of star striker Paul Onuachu.
Onuachu suffered a muscle tear and will be out for several weeks.
The injury has cost him a place at next month’s AFCON in Cameroon.
In his place, new Canada international Ugbo justified his selection with his team’s first goal at KVO after just six minutes.
The striker has now scored three goals in the Belgian league.
Genk are ninth on the table with 29 points from 21 matches.
