Super Eagles star striker Odion Ighalo has maintained that the confidence he has enjoyed from coach Gernot Rohr has helped him to be at his best with the national team.
Ighalo was top scorer in the 2019 AFCON qualifiers with seven goals and he has thus far netted three goals in the tournament proper in Egypt.
“The coach has believed in me for long and since he believes in me, I don’t care what people say about me even when I was not doing well,” the China-based striker.
“As long as the coach believes in me, it gives me the confidence to do more for the team.
“The coach believes in me and that brings out the best in me.”
Ighalo had a poor 2018 World Cup causing even some angry fans to threaten the lives of his family.
He later revealed that he even contemplated quitting international football as a result.
