Officials have disclosed that Super Eagles players have held a special meeting at their hotel in Alexandria and the main item on the agenda was how to beat Cameroon on Saturday to reach the quarterfinal of the 2019 AFCON.
“The players have had their meeting,” announced Eagles spokesman Toyin Ibitoye.
SCORENigeria understands that they would have told themselves some home truths after the shock 2-0 loss to lowly Madagascar on Sunday.
The meeting would then have stressed on the need to put behind them that stumble and now take their chances against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.
The AFCON squad are the core of the team who eliminated Cameroon from the 2018 World Cup.
However, there have been some turmoil in the dressing room after defender Leon Balogun openly disagreed with coach Gernot Rohr during a team meeting after the Madagascar defeat.
Some of the players have also questioned Rohr’s expertise and even suggested some local coaches could do even better with the team were they to enjoy as much support from the NFF as the Franco-German has received in his three years on the post.
Rohr himself has challenged the team to come up with a positive and immediate response against Cameroon after the upset by Madagascar, just as they had done when they lost 2-0 at home to South Africa in the AFCON qualifiers only to go on to qualify for the final tournament in style.
Rohr’s future as Eagles coach continues to be a matter of debate with some officials even saying this could well be his last major tournament with Nigeria.
