Wilfred Ndidi has talked tough that the Super Eagles are not afraid to take on defending champions Cameroon in Saturday’s 2019 AFCON Round of 16 clash.
Nigeria are up against the Indomitable Lions in Alexandria by 5pm in Nigeria on Saturday.
“We’re not afraid of Cameroon even though they are the defending champions,” the Leicester City midfielder insisted.
“We both deserved to this stage of the competition and we also wish to progress past the Round of 16.
“It’s the knockout rounds and so every game now is a cup final for us.
“Saturday’s game is our next cup final and we’re determined to win it.”
Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi also said they are very determined to go past the Indomitable Lions so as to come up against the winners between hosts Egypt and South Africa in the quarterfinals.
“We know what is at stake and we hope to get the job done on Saturday,” he assured.
“There is no margin for error now because any mistakes now will be punished.”
Both teams last clashed on the road to Russia 2018 with Nigeria winning the home game in Uyo 4-0 before the held the Cameroonians 1-1 in the reverse leg in Yaounde.
However, the Indomitable Lions have proved to be the boogey of the three-time champions in the AFCON final having thrice denied them the continental crown in three championship games in 1984, 1988 and 2000.
