Paul Onuachu may be re-enacting his form of last season, but he has complained he does not get enough protection from the referees against robust defending.
The 27-year-old striker has already scored nine goals thus far in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League this season after he netted 35 goals in all competitions last term.
“I feel like defenders really have to knock me out before I get a foul,” he said in an interview with Het Laatste Nuiews.
“When I say something about that, the ref’s answer is: ‘Paul, you’re a strong boy.’
“Do different rules apply because I am big and strong? That makes no sense. A foul is a foul, it’s that simple.”
Onuachu is not only strong and big because he can also play football.
“I think the defenders know by now that I can play too,” he said.
“I try to get to the crosses, but I can also be dangerous with my feet. That is no surprise to me. I was never the biggest on the field before, that growth spurt came later. I played like a number 10, playing football in the small space feels very natural to me.”
