The Super Eagles cannot afford to underrate Liberia Friday especially after the scare they suffered against Sierra Leone recently, according to Gernot Rohr.
In November, Sierra Leone fought back from four goals down in Benin City to draw 4-4 with the Eagles in a 2021 AFCON qualifier.
“We can’t underrate anybody especially after what happened a few months ago in Benin City (4-4 draw with Sierra Leone),” Rohr cautioned.
“Liberia have had a good preparation and President George Weah has ensured they have a good team, so it won’t be easy against them.”
The coach further said he is satisfied with the physical shape of his players, who all but one play overseas.
“They’re hungry, they want to win this match. We’re ready,” he assured.
Rohr will line up his strongest team against the Lone Star, but he will then be without as many nine of his top stars from the Premier League and Scotland as Cape Verde is on the UK Red List as regards the Coronavirus protocol.
The players include Leicester City pair of Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi from Everton and Watford stars William Ekong and Oghenekaro Etebo.
Stand-in captain William Ekong said they are quietly confident of victory on Friday.
“We have the quality players and we’re quietly confident,” said the Watford defender.
“But we have to stay humble and respect our opponents.”
Five thousand fans have been approved by CAF to watch the game at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
