The summer transfer window closed Tuesday midnight and SCORENigeria can now name the Top 5 moves involving Nigeria stars.
5. Alhassan Yusuf
After three years in Sweden, ‘Hasse’ has taken a big step in his highly promising career with his transfer to ambitious Belgian club Antwerp. He was a bargain buy at a snip 1.5 Million Euros and already his undeniable class has shone through. His new team will feature in the group stage of the UEFA Europa League and it will not be long before he gets a deserved call-up to the Super Eagles. This energetic midfielder remains very much on track to making true his dream to play in the Premier League.
4. David Okereke
The forward gets a chance to play for the first time in the Italian Serie A after he struggled at Belgian champions Club Brugge. This is a huge chance to revive his career after it stagnated in the last one year. He will enjoy a lot more minutes at newly promoted Venezia, something he did not at Club Brugge. And for a player who started out in Italy, he could not have hoped for a better place to get going again.
3. Emmanuel Dennis
Attitude problems meant he became Enfant Terrible in Belgium for the last one year when he was widely expected to make the big move. Last season, West Bromwich Albion then promoted to the Premier League were interested in signing the winger, but he was refused a work permit in UK. He finally got his wish to play in the Premier League this season through Watford back in the top league. He has already got off to a great start at ‘The Hornets’ and his goals and general play will be crucial in the club staying up this term.
2. Taiwo Awoniyi
The striker could not have hoped for a better start at Union Berlin – goals in his first three games and also helping the Bundesliga club advance to the group stage of the UEFA Conference League. He did not figure in the immediate plans at Liverpool and it was best he moved on after several loan stints. Union Berlin were the best fit for him to really ensure stability in his career. He could use the Berlin club as spring board to something bigger if he continued to fire in front of goal as he has started.
1. Frank Onyeka
The all-action style of the box-to-box midfielder is best suited for the Premier League and he finally saw his dream become a reality thanks to Brentford promotion back to the top league in England after 74 years. This is a transfer that is expected to transform his career after he distinguished himself in Denmark with FC Midtjylland. His main target is to ensure the London club do not immediately go down to the lower league and they are giving it a good go so far. ‘The Tank’, as he is now called by the Brentford fans, will also aim for first-team place in the Super Eagles, where Wilfred Ndidi and Oghenekaro Etebo currently hold sway.
