Coach Gernot Rohr was smart with the tactics he used for the Super Eagles to beat a stubborn Burundi in their opening AFCON 2019 group game, according to former international Sani Kaita.
Kaita, who played at AFCON 2006 and 2010 where he won bronze medals on both occasions, said Rohr’s substutions in the second half gave Nigeria maximum points in Alexandria Saturday night.
“The coach showed he is very smart. I like his tactics as his substitutions made meaningful impact in the game and gave the team the victory,” he told SCORENigeria
“Musa (Ahmed) and Ighalo piled more pressure on the Burundi defence line and that eased pressure on our defence too.
“The attack line lacked experience in the first half and that was redressed after the substitution.”
Kaita also commended the commitment of the players against a hungry and very determined team.
“I congratulate the team for the victory. Every player on the pitch put in his best to give Nigeria a good start,” he saluted.
