A very busy sporting summer continues today when the 2026 WAFCON, which will also serve as a qualifying tournament for the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil, kicks off in Morocco.
Tonight in Rabat, Algeria will open the competition against Senegal, while hosts Morocco battle Kenya all in Group A matches.
Defending champions Super Falcons of Nigeria will open their campaign Tuesday night against Malawi.
The 10-time champions have been ever-present at the World Cup since it began in 1991 in China.
The tournament has been expanded to 16 teams divided into four groups of four teams each with the group winners and runners-up advancing to the quarter-finals.
The semi-finalists will qualify for next year’s World Cup, while the losers of the quarter-finals will square up in a play-in to determine the two teams who will feature in the Inter-Continental Playoffs.
