Ogenyi Onazi played an important role for the Super Eagles to win a third AFCON in South Africa in 2013 and he has now said that the current team at the 2025 AFCON are more talented.
“They are more talented and they have more options,” Onazi told SuperSport TV
“You could see that with us it was difficult to make changes from the bench.
“But (coach) Eric Chelle now has more options to work with.”
The on-the-pitch spat between Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman has been the talking point around the Super Eagles at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
But Onazi said there is nothing strange about such disagreements, which could also be turned into positive energy by the team.
“Big fights in the national team are not new, I had something similar with Mikel,” Onazi opened up.
“I have spoken to Victor (Osimhen) and he told me he has met with Lookman, they hugged each other, people are just making something out of nothing.
“I remember the same day we were to play against the strongest team in the tournament, Cote d’Ivoire, we had our biggest issue just four hours to the match.
“We turned that energy to win and qualify for the final.”
