CAF President Patrice Motsepe has announced some major changes to the AFCON.
He said the winners of this year’s edition in Morocco will earn a prize money of $10 million, which is an increase from seven million dollars paid to the winners of the 2023 AFCON.
The CAF boss also said that after the 2027 AFCON, which is to be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, the competition will henceforth be played every four years.
This decision will help the tournament to align with the international calendar to ease the club vs country row concerning the release of players for the competition.
