Coach Joseph Akpala has praised the character of the players after they got KV Kortrijk to record their first win of the season in Belgium.
Kortrijk edged past visiting Cercle Brugge 2-1 Friday night to get them off the foot of the table in Belgium.
Former Super Eagles striker Akpala was in charge for Kortrijk on the night until the substantive coach takes over the troubled team.
He said he was very impressed with their strong mentality.
“The belief was really there in our team, the players were ready to take on any one. That was also our focus before the match, they did excellently,” he told Sporza.
“If you look at what has happened in the last three or four days, the players have to be mentally strong. You saw how focused and hungry they were. The group has never given up.”
