FCT FA chairman Adam Mouktar Mohammed has tasked the Super Eagles to go all the way and win the 2023 AFCON as a New Year gift for the country.
“We as patriotic Nigerians always love our national team, so we have high hopes and expectations, particularly in a big tournament like the AFCON, where African pride is at stake,” said Mouktar Mohammed, who praised the total support the team have enjoyed from President Bola Tinubu.
“With the talents in the team, football-loving Nigerians expect much from the boys and even winning the title.
“My feeling is a semi-final would be fair, but ultimately we want the cup.
“It will not only lift the spirit of the nation, but will be a perfect New Year gift for Nigerians.”
Today, the Super Eagles begin their march to continental glory and the FA boss said the team should get off to a winning start to set the tone for ultimate triumph in Cote d’Ivoire.
“The first match against Equatorial Guinea as well as the second group game against the host nation are crucial,” he reasoned.
“I expect us to win today before the second game on Thursday.”
Defending champion Senegal, Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt and Morocco are his other favourites to win the 34th AFCON.
