The failure of the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2026 World Cup forced millions of disappointed fans to switch off on the colourful draw for the tournament, only for NFF president Ibrahim Gusau to be very much part of the event.
“Why will the NFF president be at the draw when the Super Eagles will not be at the World Cup?” was the general question asked by disappointed fans.
“This should have been a time for a more sober reflection by all stakeholders that for the second straight World Cup Nigeria will not feature,” another fan argued.
“Rather he has continued to junket around the world.
“It only shows just how much responsibility those running our football are ready to take for their failures.”
A friend of Gusau rushed to his defence.
“Don’t you know that he is also the president of WAFU B and Ghana qualified for the World Cup?”
Interestingly, South Africa, who won the Super Eagles qualifying group for the 2026 World Cup, will play against co-hosts Mexico in the opening match of the Mundial on June 11 inside the famous Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.
