Moses Simon was a starter in coach Jose Peseiro’s Super Eagles going into the 2023 AFCON, but the FC Nantes winger has since been consigned to the substitute bench as the team push to reach the knockout rounds of the tournament.
SCORENigeria has now learnt that Moses Simon has lost his place in the starting XI on account of his insistence that he is a left winger and not a right winger.
At his Ligue 1 club, he is listed as a left winger and it was also that position he played at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, where he emerged as one of the country’s top performers.
Peseiro rates Ademola Lookman ahead of Moses Simon and so he is happy to play the Atalanta forward as a left winger.
Lookman has since justified the confidence the coach has in him with good outings against Equatorial Guinea and Cote d’Ivoire.
Peseiro will therefore want Simon to play on the right wing ahead of the talented but inconsistent Samuel Chukwueze as he puts in a good shift tracking back in defence for the team as well.
But Moses Simon has insisted he is at his best as a left winger.
