The big selection poser leading up to tonight’s AFCON quarterfinal between the Super Eagles and South Africa is who should start for Nigeria on the right side of attack – Moses Simon or Samuel Chukwueze.
Moses Simon started in the big win over defending champions Cameroon in the Round of 16 and posted a decent outing before he was replace by Villarreal youngster Chukwueze, who made a bigger impact in the half an hour he was on the pitch.
Simon is the more established of the two wingers and besides his experience at this level, his all-round game which allows him to contribute both in defence and attack has stood in good stead.
That would explain why at his La Liga club UD Levante he has even being played as a left wing back.
Chukwueze, on the other hand, is the more exciting of the two going forward with his mazy dribble runs and superb goals.
At his AFCON debut, his final ball has so far let him down.
But he is better rated in La Liga than Simon.
Against the fast and daring Bafana Bafana of South Africa tonight, it is most likely that coach Gernot Rohr will again consider Simon ahead of Chukwueze so as to help out in a rather shaky defence when the need arises.
The Eagles are blessed to have two fast wingers in Simon and Chukwueze and how well they use them could go a long way in determining their progress in Egypt.
