The major selection poser for Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro leading up to tonight’s epic showdown against five-time champions Cameroon is whether to start stand-in captain William Ekong or Kenneth Omeruo.
Omeruo came in for injured Ekong against Guinea Bissau in the team’s last group game.
The experienced Kasimpasa of Turkey central defender posted a decent performance in a three-man defence.
Ekong was picked ahead of Omeruo in the opening two group games, but he suffered what now looks like a thigh injury against AFCON hosts Cote d’Ivoire to stay out against Guinea Bissau.
He has since returned to full team training, but he is playing with a heavy strapping around the thigh.
It is therefore a choice of a fully fit Omeruo and a half-fit Ekong for Peseiro against the Indomitable Lions tonight.
Whoever starts today will also captain the team.
Kick-off time is 9 pm at the Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.
