Super Eagles will not qualify for the 2026 World Cup whether they are led by a foreign or local coach, according to former international Emeka Ezeugo.
Ezeugo, who has been a frontline critic of the NFF, has predicted that because of the corruption in the NFF as well as desperation by his fellow ex-internationals, Nigeria will miss out on World Cup qualification for the second straight time.
The NFF are set to appoint a new coach to steer the Super Eagles to the 2026 World Cup to be hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico with several ex-internationals linked with the top post.
Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup and they are currently third in the qualifying tournament for the 2026 edition.
After two rounds of matches, Rwanda lead the standings with four points, while South Africa are second on three points.
The Super Eagles have two points after draws with Lesotho and Zimbabwe in November 2023.
They face two crucial qualifiers between June 3 and 11 at home against main rivals South Africa and away in Benin, who are now handled by former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr.

I believe Ezeugo. This set of Super Eagles are not convincing. Their performance at the recent AFCON is not satisfactory
The truth, of course. The greed and hate that dominates the ring of the ex- internationals will collaborate with the corruption in the football house to effectively stop our qualification for the next world cup
Yes these so-called ex-international have become talking heads led by 1980 star Odegbami. They think they know ot all when it comes to selecting a coach for the Super Eagles. The noisy and stupid Odegbami was one of those idiots that made our last coach to refuse extending his stay. He achieved more than his mandate yet Odegbami and his cohorts continue asking for his head because they want one of their own to assume that position so that they can have easy access to him and bring back the era of BROWN ENVELOPE. Even non-achievers as a coach like Oliseh wants the job. Please NFF should appoint a foreign coach as early as possible so that there is enough time for preparation. Our indigenous coaches as at now aren’t good enough and they are clouded by favouritism, tribalism and outright incompetence.
Concerning Odegbami uou are right he would have collected money from someone ,hence all the noise.
NFF, please do us a favour, appoint a foreign coach as soon as possible before these ex-international hijack the entire process. They have a hidden agenda behind the clamouring for an indigenous coach. One of those hidden agendas is easy access to the coach, bringing back the era of BROWN ENVELOPE ( that characterised Stephen Keshi era) yes, he won afcon 2013 though at the same time he succeeded in dragging the Super Eagles to the 58 position in FIFA’S ranking. I’m not implying that his success was a fluke but it can’t be compared to that of Westerhof 1994 success which eventually catapulted the Eagles to the 5th position in FIFA’S ranking. The crop of indigenous couches that we have now are extremely incompetent, tribalistic as well as corrupt. Take Oliseh for instance, he is a serial failure in Europe. His last job was coaching a lower division club in Belgium. His team played 7 matches and lost all of them before he was given the matching order. He is suggesting that the NFF shouldn’t have invited all interested applicants to apply, instead they should adopt Liverpool system of trying to replace their departing coach by simply identifying someone and inviting that person alone for interview. Oliseh tries to be smarter than his own shadow. He is indirectly telling NFF to invite him and no one else. NFF, please, do the needful and invite competent foreign coach to handle the job.
Your name alone is terrible, not to talk about your person, irritating, to say the least, you are insulting one man that has risen from the ranks, even if he is campaigning for his own person, it’s aloud, one thing you must take home is, Segun Odegbami is a detribalised Nigeria,he works for everyone and make his profit, what’s wrong about that, did you forget Chioma Ajunwa, Segun Odegbami single handedly worked her to Olympic heights, who took the glory, Nigeria, what did he see in Chioma,he didn’t see tribe,he saw talent,at the end of the day,he made profit from that venture, multinational companies like cheveron came for him,so,if today,he is angling Emmanuel Amunike, whom you tactically refused to mention, what’s wrong, Osimeh that is aguebly one of the best footballers on Earth today, has told the world he respects Amunike, what’s our problem here, don’t you know the problem most coaches have is controlling some of these so called stars.See what happened between Ademola lukmon and finidi, not just him, nearly all the big names in the team,no matter how good a coach is,if you can’t manage your players, forget it, and here, you already have a player, through whom Amunike Can control others praising him, and, you choose to be blind to the truth, even in coaching proper, has Amunike not Shown himself worthy, winning under sixteen world cup, and taken Ugandan national team to there first world cup in so many years, what his type need is support from your inept NFF, that can never come, because, people like you, are encouraging them, shame on you
It is only in Nigeria searching for a coach will take one year to achieve. Why are we backwards in everything? Since Peseiro left, there has been no concrete and diligent search for a coach that can guarantee us the qualification. I believe Nigeria can still qualify from the group If the right man handles our group of players. For me,I.don’t see any of our ex stars achieving anything with those guys.
The corruption at the top is degenerating to NFF which has badly affected our major unifying factor ( football ) NFF is glaringly corrupt.
NFF would never employ top rated Coach for SE because of kick back, furthermore he will expose their dirty linen to be washed outside.
Though, I don’t subscribe to the insinuation that Nigeria will not qualify for World Cup , I believe it’s still possible with the ultimate dedication of the players towards the remaining matches
Why will you say something like this? Dick Head
