The Super Eagles are in Austria for two friendlies against Cameroon, but conspicuously missing is Joseph Yobo, who is the assistant coach to Gernot Rohr, with officials insisting they are unaware why the young coach has not turned up.
An official told SCORENigeria: “No one really knows why he is not here.”
Yobo has yet to get his coaching badges and was a surprise appointment.
The absence of the former Super Eagles captain comes amid reports he does not enjoy a healthy working relationship with Rohr.
There are also some other people who believe that Rohr, who will be 68 later this month, deserves a more experienced assistant following the departure of Salisu Yusuf and Imama Amapakabo.
“Yobo may not be ready yet for this huge responsibility,” reasoned a top official.
In the meantime, Yobo is being promoted to do punditry for SuperSport for the Euros, which kick off next weekend.
Another former Eagles captain, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, is also one of the pundits.
