Vice President Kashim Shettima will return for Sunday’s AFCON Final after he jetted into Cote d’Ivoire with the lucky charm for the Super Eagles to fly past South Africa in a dramatic semifinal.
Several top officials told SCORENigeria Shettima will head a powerful Presidential delegation for Sunday’s AFCON Final against hosts Cote d’Ivoire.
Nigeria marched to their eighth AFCON Final Wednesday in Bouake after they beat South Africa 4-2 on penalties after both teams were level 1-1 even after extra time.
Most Nigerians had dreaded the game dragging into a penalty shootout after the heroics of South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, who saved four kicks in his team’s victory against Cape Verde in the previous round of the tournament.
Vice President Shettima celebrated with the victorious Super Eagles in the dressing room.
He later gave the team a cash gift, while promising a special reward for them from the government.
Top government officials including the President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio and the Secretary to the Federation, George Akume, have visited Cote d’Ivoire to cheer the Super Eagles to victory.
