Crowd trouble today forced the local derby between Abia Warriors and Enyimba to be abandoned after just 25 minutes as top officials of visiting team Enyimba including chairman Felix Anyansi-Agwu were attacked in the violence.
Anyansi was struck in the head by an object and had to be attended to at the Federal Medical Center in Umuahia.
Officials of visiting Katsina United were also attacked at Warri Wolves as the second round of the NPFL commenced on a rather unpleasant note.
Before the match in Umuahia was called off, the home team lost a penalty and there were no goals.
The organisers of the competition, the League Management Company (LMC), have since announced the game will be concluded Monday morning at the Okigwe Stadium.
The league has suffered several incidents of crowd violence over time.
In the first round of the season, another local derby involving Katsina United and Kano Pillars was marred by fights among rival fans, which led to serious injuries.
Both teams were later fined and ordered to play without fans for some of their home games.
