Francis Uzoho is set to man the posts for the Super Eagles in a friendly against Algeria tomorrow night after the goalkeeping problems that resurfaced in a test game against Algeria ‘B’ team.
Watford goalkeeper Maduka Okoye did not exactly cover himself in glory in Friday’s game against the Algerian home-based team when he felt to deal with a clearance leading to the opening goal.
Israel-based Adeleye Adebayo made his long-awaited Eagles debut on the day, but he also failed to keep a clean sheet after he conceded a penalty for the Algeria CHAN team to achieve a morale-boosting 2-2 draw with Nigeria.
Uzoho was rested in that test game and top team officials said he will start in goal tomorrow night as the Super Eagles face a much tougher opposition in Oran.
Like Okoye, Uzoho has also struggled for game time at his Cypriot club, but he is the more experienced of the two goalkeepers having even played as No 1 at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
However, his Eagles career hit a rough patch when he let in the goal in Abuja in March which qualified rivals Ghana to this year’s World Cup in Qatar.
Kick-off tomorrow is 8pm.
