Cyriel Dessers scored his first UEFA Champions League goal, but it was only a consolation effort as Genk crashed out of the competition tonight at Shakhtar Donetsk.
Slavia Praha, who paraded Peter Olayinka, as well as Rangers with Leon Balogun and Joe Aribo, were also sent packing.
Shakhtar advanced to the final playoffs after a 4-2 aggregate win over Genk.
The Ukrainian club, who won the first leg in Belgium 2-1, scored in either half at home, before Dessers halved the deficit on the dot of full time.
Paul Onuachu started for the Belgian club but was replaced late on, while Dessers was a 68th minute sub as Genk went for broke.
Peter Olayinka’s Slavia Praha were also eliminated when they could only beat Ferencvaros 1-0 at home after they lost the first leg in Hungary 2-0.
Olayinka started tonight’s game, but was replaced after just 16 minutes.
Both Leon Balogun and Joe Aribo started for Rangers at home against Malmo, but failed to make their numerical advantage count after Innocent Bonke was sent off in first half stoppage time as the Swedish club repeated their 2-1 home win in Scotland.
