It was tough going for Taiwo Awoniyi on his Premier League debut as Nottingham Forest fell 2-0 at Newcastle United on the opening day of the season today.
Awoniyi, who cost more than 17 Million Pounds from Union Berlin in the Bundesliga, was one of six debutants for Forest on their return to the English top flight after 23 long years.
The Super Eagles striker was a 63rd minute sub and overall he cut a lone figure upfront as Forest offered very little going forward.
Awoniyi did not get a sight at the Newcastle goal during the time he was on the pitch.
He will need more quality service from midfield and the wings were he to shine in the Premier League.
His club barely survived the first half mainly because of poor finishing by the home team.
Newcastle continued to mount pressure after the restart before they were duly rewarded and they doubled their lead soon after.
Forest will next week welcome West Ham in continuation of the new season.
