SCORENigeria can exclusively report that top officials have promised the Super Eagles that they will ensure South Africa forfeit three points and three goals for fielding a suspended player for their 2026 World Cup qualifier against Lesotho.
Bafana Bafana of South Africa breached the rules and regulations of the World Cup qualifying series after they lined up Teboho Mokoena against Lesotho even after he had been booked in two previous qualifiers.
The top officials addressed the Super Eagles in their hotel after the 1-1 home draw with Zimbabwe Tuesday in Uyo.
“We will sit down and make sure that South Africa lose the three points for parading a suspended player because this is against the rules of the competition,” one of the high-ranking officials told the players.
“We were sanctioned by FIFA for the same offence on the road to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.”
South Africa lead Group C with a hefty 13 points, five clear points ahead of the closest rivals Rwanda and Benin.
A loss of three points will see Bafana Bafana lead at the top of the standings cut back to only two points.
