Several top Norwegian clubs including Stabaek are keen to sign Jerome Akor, but his club Sogndal insist he is an “important” player in their quest to win promotion back to the top league and they won’t sell.
Akor, 21, is in his last year of his contract with Sogndal and could leave a free player if he does not agree an extension.
“There are several clubs that have contacted us and we have politely said no,” said Sogndal sports manager Håvard Flo.
“We are looking for a promotion to the Elite Series, even though we have not got the good start of the season we have wanted, and in this pursuit, Akor is an important part of our squad.”
Stabaek are one of the clubs reported to be interested in the Flying Eagles striker.
Stabæk’s sports manager Torgeir Bjarmann will neither confirm nor deny whether they have been in contact with Sogndal regarding Akor.
“Akor is a player we know very well, and who I have followed since before he came to Norway. We know his personality, and he’s a player we follow. He has potential, but has been a bit injured lately,” Bjarmann said.
Big centre-forward Akor joined Sogndal in 2018 on loan.
In his first two seasons he scored seven goals in 19 matches.
Last season was blighted by a long-term injury, while in the current campaign he has so far scored four goals.
