SCORENigeria has specially gathered that the NFF will have more than a passing interest on who will become the next captain of the Super Eagles following the retirement of William Ekong.
Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon, Alex Iwobi, Chidozie Awaziem and Victor Osimhen are now the most senior internationals on the final 2025 AFCON squad.
Moses Simon is currently the most senior player in Morocco having made his Super Eagles debut on March 25, 2015, while both Ndidi and Iwobi made their full international bow on October 8, 2015.
Awaziem and Osimhen first featured for the Super Eagles on June 1, 2017
A top official told SCORENigeria: “Seniority has often been used to appoint the captain of the national team.
“If that be the case, Moses Simon should be the next captain.
“The NFF leadership will certainly push for a player, who will be on the page with them, like was the case with Ahmed Musa.
“They certainly will not favour someone like Osimhen because he will not do their bidding at the expense of the team.”
