The reliable English newspaper The Guardian has reported the London club plan to sign the Super Eagles star striker in the New Year.
Osimhen, 24, still has two years left on his Napoli contract and even though there is no buy-out clause on this contract, Chelsea will have to break the bank to sign him.
He has yet to sign a new contract with Napoli even after protracted talks in this regard.
Osimhen followed Chelsea while growing up in Lagos and ‘The Blues’ legendary striker Didier Drogba remains one of idols.
Transfermarkt values Osimhen at 120 Million Euros, while Napoli want at least 150 Million Euros for the Serie A top scorer of last season.
Chelsea interest is coming on the back of the controversies at Napoli concerning Osimhen.
TikTok videos posted on the official Napoli account appear to mock Osimhen which caused his agent to threaten legal action against the Serie A champions.
Top Nigerian government officials have waded into the controversy, insisting they will not sit and watch the country’s football ambassador ridiculed by his foreign club.
Napoli have since released a statement on the issue, which many argued fell short of an apology to the player.
