Leverkusen beat hosts and German third division club Rot-Weiss Essen 2-1 to get their preparations for the new season off on a winning start.
Tella crowned a dominant first-half display by the champions with his team’s first goal of the 2024/25 season after 44 minutes of action.
The winger cashed in on a defensive slip to make hay from a tight angle.
Fellow Super Eagles teammate Victor Boniface also started for Leverkusen.
