Tella was the impact substitute as he came off the bench in the second half to knock out Bayern Munich from the German Cup.
The Super Eagles winger was brought on in the 61st minute and headed home a cross for the only goal of this cup tie eight minutes later to send holders Bayer Leverkusen to the quarterfinal of the cup competition.
It was also the first goal of the former Southampton star.
“I’ll be honest, it’s been a really frustrating start to the season…but I can’t argue with the coach [Xabi Alonso]. He knows what’s best for the team,” Tella said in reference to his limited game time this season.
