Super Eagles stars have said they were unlucky against Rwanda in Kigali and really wanted more than a draw in the 2025 AFCON qualifier.
The Super Eagles created the better chances against hosts Rwanda back by a record crowd and the country’s President Paul Kegame, but they ended the Group D tie 0-0.
“We threw everything at them, but it just didn’t go in, we were unlucky,” lamented midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, who started for the Super Eagles in Kigali.
“We played well, but we couldn’t finish off the chances we created.
“It was the result we wanted, but with everything considered we will take this result.”
Captain William Ekong admitted it was difficult to play on the road on account of the artificial pitch and some “questionable decisions”.
However, he said the Super Eagles would have won had they put away the chances they got.
“Rwanda set up their team well,” Ekong said.
“We created chances and on a different day, it would have been a different result (in Super Eagles favour).”
