Super Eagles will on February 6 in Yaounde battle hosts Cameroon for the 2021 AFCON, former captain Segun ‘Mathematical’ Odegbami has predicted.
Odegbami was one of the stars when Nigeria won their first AFCON title on home soil in 1980.
Both the Eagles and the Indomitable Lions have already secured their passage to their knockout rounds of the tournament.
However, should Odegbami’s prediction come to pass, Nigerian fans will be far from optimistic of victory as Cameroon have on three occasions denied the country the continental crown – 1984, 1988 and 2000.
The 2000 AFCON final loss to the Indomitable Lions was the most painful as they fell via controversial penalty shootout right in front of their home fans inside the National Stadium in Lagos.
Television replays showed Victor Ikpeba’s penalty crossed the goalline, but the referee had ruled otherwise.
The Indomitable Lions also stopped the Eagles when they last clashed in a friendly in Austria last year.
