Herve Renard, who has been sounded out for the vacant Super Eagles post, has admitted he got all he needed but could not succeed with the French women’s team at the Paris Olympics.
Home team France fell 1-0 to Brazil in the quarterfinal Saturday night.
The former Zambia and Cote d’Ivoire coach said he was disappointed his team did not reach the semifinals of the Olympics.
“I had everything I needed and I did not succeed,” Renard told L’Equipe after his team’s ouster.
“I came to reach the semi-final, we did not pass the milestone.
“The French women’s team were not rewarded for the match they played. The girls were not rewarded for all the efforts they have made.
“They played the match they had to play, against a rather special team. Football does not come out on top, but Brazil are in the semi-finals and France did not know how to get over the obstacle with a missed penalty, a crossbar, chances.
He added: “They never gave up, they pushed, they fought, until we made a small mistake on a counterattack. We were surprised once.
“I don’t have much else to say, except that the entire staff deserved much better. Sometimes you have to swallow a lie, that’s how it is, that’s football.”
Renard, who also qot France to the quarterfinal of World Cup last year, has asked for a monthly salary of $180,000 to be the new Super Eagles coach.
