Super Eagles said they hope to win their AFCON Group A with victory over Guinea Bissau tomorrow in a final group game.
Coach Jose Peseiro said they cannot afford to be overconfident tomorrow as the target is to top the group.
“We defeated Cote d’Ivoire, but that is already in the past,” the Portuguese coach said.
“We know that in football what counts is the moment.
“We must temper our confidence and put in more work as required. We must not rest.”
He added: “We want to take the first place and for that we must do what is necessary to accomplish our mission tomorrow.”
Last year, The Wild Dogs of Guinea Bissau shocked the Super Eagles by the odd goal in Abuja in a 2023 AFCON qualifier.
However, Peseiro said he is not interested in a revenge.
“We’re not thinking of revenge, but we are here to top the group and they are in our sight,” he insisted.
“We must do what has to be done.
“Guinea have no point and will play with freedom and that is when a team becomes dangerous.”
Star striker Victor Osimhen was also clear the Eagles aim to win their first round group.
“We know how Guinea Bissau play, they upset us in Abuja (1-0 2023 AFCON qualifiers),” recalled the Napoli striker.
“Like we played against the Ivorians, we’re going to bring all the determination to this game.
“We won’t underrate them.
“We want to win this game, to top our group and progress to the next round.
“Personally, I will give my best for the team.
“It doesn’t matter if I score, but when I get my chances, I will take them.
“I will give my all for the team to continue to win.”
Kick-off time is 6pm.
