The Super Eagles may not have got off to a winning start at the 2023 AFCON as widely expected, but they are still one of the most feared teams at the tournament, according to the legendary Nwankwo Kanu.
The Super Eagles forced Equatorial Guinea to a 1-1 draw Sunday and face a more daunting challenge Thursday in second Group A match against host country Cote d’Ivoire.
However, Kanu has maintained three-time African champions Nigeria remain a major threat in the continental competition because of their pedigree.
“All the teams fear Nigeria,” said two-time CAF Player of the Year Kanu.
“We believe we have a team of top talents who have a good chance against Cote d’Ivoire in their next game.
“I will back them to win this game.”
The Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire lead Group A with three points after their 2-0 win over Guinea Bissau on the opening day of the 2023 AFCON.
Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea have a point each, while Guinea Bissau are yet to record a point.
