South Africa may be the clear leaders in the 2026 World Cup qualifying group that also has the Super Eagles, but ex-international Victor Ikpeba said he has “mighty belief” Bafana Bafana will drop points on the road to the Mundial.
The Bafana Bafana are top of Group C with 10 points from five matches, while the Super Eagles are four points adrift and in fourth place.
“The key to this group could well be the matches between Benin and South Africa as well as that between the Super Eagles and Zimbabwe. The results of these matches may define this group,” said Ikpeba
“South Africa lost to Rwanda, it shows that they are beateable.
“They have improved under coach Hugo Broos, see how they outclassed Lesotho (Friday).
“But I have a mighty belief that South Africa will drop points somewhere and it is for the Super Eagles to win our remaining games because we want to be at the World Cup.”
Ikpeba described the Super Eagles 2-0 win in Rwanda as a “professional performance”, while adding that Victor Osimhen is a key to the team’s success.
