Despite a perfect start to the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, the Super Eagles will remain on the edge of the FIFA rankings as it concerns African teams when the latest ratings are announced next week.
The danger is that should they drop out of the top 5 and qualify for the World Cup playoffs in March 2022, they will not be seeded and as such will most likely be drawn against one the continent’s top teams for a place at Qatar 2022.
Senegal will remain No 1 in Africa, Tunisia second, Algeria in third place with Morocco fourth.
Nigeria will thus be fifth and Egypt a distant sixth in Africa.
It would be recalled that the Super Eagles were barely seeded for next year’s AFCON as the sixth-ranked team going by the FIFA Rankings as hosts Cameroon also made Pot 1.
The results at the AFCON will also count in the FIFA rankings going forward.
