The present Super Eagles team are not disciplined, according to former African Footballer of the Year Victor Ikpeba.
“The biggest problem of the Super Eagles is indiscipline,” Ikpeba fired a broadside on the national team during a SuperSports programme Monday Night Football.
“There should be team unity and respect for the manager.
“When those things are not there, it is a problem.”
In June, the Super Eagles found themselves in a tight corner after they failed to beat South Africa in Uyo and were upset by Benin in 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
They now languish second from bottom with three points after four rounds of matches with hopes of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup now in tatters.
“The team were not good enough ad so the abysmal results in June,” Ikpeba said.
“They made Nigerians proud when they reached the final of the AFCON and now we want to see a reaction from them.
“It will not be easy against Benin again, but a win will ease the pressure.
“It does not have to be 4-0, 1-0 will do. The most important thing is to get a result.”
He said he expects coaches Fidelis Ilechukwu and Daniel Ogunmodede from the NPFL to learn as assistants to Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen.

I don’t expect someone like victor Ikprba to start accusing the super Eagles of indiscipline presently when there’s none, I wonder if there is a Case of indiscipline as the players are in the camp or whether he was making reference to a past issue. Everyone has doubt on the ability of Augustine Eguavon in charge to deliver result , so let’s not use unproven case of players indiscipline to make an excuse for him in the event of failure to deliver result. Let’s be careful of explosive comments when there’s no need for one that may attract a reply from the players that will be deemed an insult to a legend like victor Ikpeba. Like we experienced recently.
There’s no point heating up the already boiling polity. Victor Ikpeba should keep shut and allow the players concentrate on the assignment ahead. Ikpeba himself is not discipline with his choice of words.
Daniel Amokachi KNOWS how to read matches on the field as they are being executed. Why is he not there to help? Is Ndidi going to play? then don’t expect a good result as he always causes us to lose.
