Super Eagles failure to beat Lesotho at home has been described by NFF Vice President Gbenga Elegbeleye as “the greatest embarrassment” for Nigeria football.

Lesotho, ranked 153rd in the world, were forced to a 1-1 draw by the Super Eagles in a 2026 World Cup qualifier played in Uyo last week.
“This is the greatest embarrassment I have ever seen in Nigeria football,” blasted Elegbeleye, who is also the chairman of the Nigeria premier league.
“That was very, very bad. We were supposed to win against Lesotho by a very clear margin.
“Nobody is comfortable and happy with the situation.”
The NFF are now due to meet to forge the way forward for the Super Eagles after the draws with both Lesotho and Zimbabwe put the country’s qualification to the 2026 World Cup in serious danger.
