A man-of-the-match display by Femi Azeez against Zimbabwe in the Unity Cup has now been rewarded with his selection to the Super Eagles squad for the forthcoming friendlies against Poland and Portugal.
The Millwall winger, who scored a brace against Zimbabwe for the Super Eagles to march on to today’s Unity Cup final against Jamaica, will now replace Samuel Chukwueze.
This week, Chukwueze buried his mother in Nigeria.
Femi Azeez impressed on his Super Eagles debut even though he played in an unfamiliar position as a central attacking midfielder, a role that has been played by Ademola Lookman and Chukwueze under coach Eric Chelle.
The Super Eagles coach had previously held out when he was questioned whether on the back of such a strong individual performance Femi Azeez could now be also listed for the friendlies next month.
Nigeria take on Poland on June 3, before they are guests to World Cup-bound Portugal on June 10.
