The Super Eagles today became the first team to advance to the 2019 AFCON knockout rounds courtesy of a 73rd minute header by Man of the Match Kenneth Omeruo.
He powered home a Moses Simon corner to finally break the resolute Guineans.
It was a deserved win for Nigeria after an improved second half when they pegged their opponents in their own half for most of that period.
The three-time African champions remained top of Group B with six points from two matches, while Guinea are on a point.
AFCON debutants Madagascar and Burundi will slug it out in a second game of the section tomorrow.
The first chance fell to Ibrahima Cisse, whose shot on two minutes was not held once by goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi.
A moment later, Iwobi was not decisive with the ball at his feet right inside the Guinea box.
Ighalo was then selfish not to have played one of his freerer teammates when he homed in on Guinea goal with only the goalkeeper to beat in the 32nd minute.
He scoffed his shot to the sidenetting to the relief of the Syli National.
In the 37th minute, Iwobi fired a tricky shot, but Guinea goalkeeper Kone pushed the ball for a corner.
Overall, Guinea enjoyed more of the ball in the first 45 minutes with Liverpool star Naby Keita pulling the strings for his team from midfield.
