According to FIFA, teams will not win or lose points in the monthly rankings by the Round of 16 of the AFCON and as such the Super Eagles will remain third in Africa and 31st in the world even after their loss to Tunisia at that stage of the competition in Cameroon.
That should be scant consolation for the Super Eagles, who were widely tipped to go all the way at this tournament after winning their first three matches.
However, teams will again win or lose points from the quarterfinals of the AFCON.
Nigeria have 1510 points as Senegal remain the best ranked team in Africa with 1547 points, while Morocco have 1541 points.
The FIFA Rankings were used to seed teams for the final World Cup playoffs in March and they will also be used to do same for the draw for the main World Cup on April 1.
