The Super Eagles have been confirmed as one of five top seeds for the 2022 World Cup final playoffs in March, which means they will not face the likes of African champions Algeria and Senegal.
This followed the latest FIFA Rankings released Friday which confirmed them as 36th in the world and fifth in Africa.
The other top seeds are Senegal, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia, which means all five seeded teams will avoid themselves in the playoffs.
The five other qualifiers for the playoffs are therefore not seeded – Egypt, Ghana, Cameroon, DR Congo and Mali.
The date for the playoffs draw will now be announced on Thursday after the CAF executive committee meeting in Cairo, Egypt.
The playoffs to be played on home and away basis and they will be played between March 21 and 29, 2022.
The winners of the playoffs will progress to the World Cup in Qatar, which kicks off in November 2022.
