Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has risen to the stout defence of goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, whose recent antics between the posts have irritated most fans.
The coach said he always demands a strong character from his players.
“I don’t want a nice guy in my goal,” he said clearly. “I need a player with character.
“I asked Stanley to be a warrior.
“He gives everything for his team and for his country.
“He did some mistakes, like any other player, but he did a lot of good things, he needs sometimes to be calmer.”
Chippa United shot stopper Nwabali has been the Super Eagles No 1 since the delayed 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire last year.
