Super Eagles are still very confident they will qualify for the 2026 World Cup despite dropping two points at home against bottom team Zimbabwe, according to captain William Ekong.
South Africa are runaway leaders of Group C with 13 points, six points clear of fourth-placed Nigeria with four matches to the end of the qualifying series in October.
“Yes, we’re very confident still we will qualify,” Ekong told SuperSport TV
“We dropped two points at home against Zimbabwe and we have to win our remaining four matches.
“I have a great belief we will still qualify, we will give 100% to try and get the World Cup ticket as long as there’s a possibility we can do so.
“There’s the rumour around South Africa (fielding an ineligible player), but we’re thinking about this until it is resolved.
“The fans should keep believing in us through disappointment and difficult moments because we’re first and foremost Super Eagles fans.”
In September, the Super Eagles will welcome second-placed Rwanda to Uyo before they face table toppers South Africa away from home.
In October, they have a home game against Benin and an away trip to Lesotho.
