The Super Eagles have not given up hope of playing at next year’s World Cup and so they will fight until the end of the qualifying series, according to captain William Ekong.
The Super Eagles are third in Group C with 11 points, three points behind Benin and South Africa with two rounds of matches to be played.
Only the group winners will automatically qualify for the World Cup to be hosted by USA, Canada and Mexico.
Today, they face hosts Lesotho in Polokwane after both teams drew 1-1 in Uyo about two years ago.
“We are optimistic. We will always fight to the end,” Ekong said ahead of this clash.
“We never stop believing. Two crucial games ahead, the first against Lesotho, then we return home.
“Right now all focus is on Lesotho. The boys are in camp, focused and the spirit is high.”
Coach Eric Chelle added: “We are focused on our group and players.
“We want to win but like I said, we need to focus on our state of mind and ourselves. This is the most important thing.”
