FCT Football Association chairman Adam Mouktar Mohammed has urged that a football-friendly group be considered when concessioning the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
The sports ministry is working on concessioning the various stadiums across the country so that they could be independent of government funding.
Mouktar Mohammed said a football-friendly company will ensure the National Stadium is maintained as the country’s treasured monument.
“Concessioning the stadium is very dear to me because whoever is responsible for this concessioning should hand over the stadium to a football-focused group, not a real estate group, who would see it as a place to build a hotel, houses and land grab,” he cautioned.
“We want a football-focused group who see football as prime and who see the stadium as a national monument that represents Nigerian football.
“We should also ensure it’s an open and transparent process and people are given a chance to contribute to how the stadium will be consessioned.
“It shouldn’t be given to a wrong hand to destroy a national monument.”
The FCT FA boss has already canvassed for the Super Eagles to make the MKO Abiola National Stadium their fortress going forward.
