Banyana Banyana of South Africa will play off against rivals the Super Falcons of Nigeria for a place at this year’s summer Olympics in Paris, France, after they brushed past Tanzania today.
The final playoffs will be staged on a home and away basis in April.
The South Africans have lately proved to be a hard nut to crack for the Super Falcons, who previously dominated them.
Also, there is a lot of national pride riding on this tie after the recent meetings between the two countries like this month’s dramatic 2023 AFCON semifinal.
Tonight, Banyana Banyana beat Tanzania 1-0 in a third round second leg qualifier to go through to the playoffs 4-0 on aggregate.
However, the return leg was not a stroll for the reigning African champions as they first had to survive a scare from the East Africans, who had a goal chalked off for offside.
Skipper Thembi Kgatlana broke the stalemate after 58 minutes.
Jermaine Seoposenwe won her milestone 100th cap for South Africa on the night.
