Super Eagles today lost their year-long unbeaten record when Senegal stopped them in a final AFCON warm-up game in Ismailia.
Idrissa Gueye’s 18th minute strike no thanks to a defensive mix-up proved to be the difference between the two West African teams.
Coach Gernot Rohr had hoped his team maintained their unbeaten run since after last year’s World Cup in Russia, but it was not to be.
The friendly was played behind closed doors as both teams perfect their strategies for the 2019 AFCON, which kicks off on Friday in Cairo.
Rohr made six changes to his starting XI in the course of the game.
Both teams played out a 1-1 draw in another friendly staged in London in March 2017.
The Eagles will begin their AFCON campaign Saturday against debutants Burundi in Alexandria.
Eagles starting XI (3-5-2)
Daniel Akpeyi – Kenneth Omeruo, William Ekong, John Ogu (Oghenekaro Etebo) – Jamilu Collins (Ola Aina), Samuel Kalu (Chidozie Awaziem), Wilfred Ndidi, Mikel Obi, Alex Iwobi (Moses Simon) – Odion Ighalo (Victor Osimhen), Samuel Chukwueze (Henry Onyekuru)
